Southeast Asian Diasporic Artists Melbourne (SEADAM)
Southeast Asian Diasporic Artists Melbourne (SEADAM) is an artist-initiated social gathering for Southeast Asian diasporic artists based in Naarm/Melbourne and visiting artists from the region, alongside guest artists whose practices are in dialogue with Southeast Asian contexts.
Recognising a lack of dedicated space and a growing desire for connection, this group creates a welcoming community for SEA diasporic artists of all migration journeys — from new migrants to those born in Australia — across diverse cultural practices and disciplines to connect, share, and exchange lived experiences, knowledge, ideas, and resources.
Meeting monthly, each session invites one to two artists to share informally about their creative practice through varied modes — from movement and discussion to video, writing, eating, and resting.
SEADAM is hosted by Somatic Arts in the art precinct of Collingwood Yard.
The gathering is by invitation through artists’ networks — if you are keen to participate, please contact us at sea.diaspora.melb@gmail.com
